Wahab Shittu, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, said that in all the allegations leveled by Peter Obi at the court over the 2023 presidential election, which of them was he able to prove?

Wahab Shittu made this statement in an interview with Channels TV during the Politics Today program when Seun Okinbaloye asked him to explain the legal perspective of what Peter Obi said earlier during the world press conference. Peter Obi claimed that the Supreme Court’s ruling on the presidential election petition had weakened the trust and confidence of Nigerians in the judiciary.

Wahab Shittu said that Peter Obi has the right to his opinion, but he is disappointed by Peter Obi’s remarks on the Supreme Court judgment regarding the election petition. He said that Peter Obi, having professed to be a democrat, should act as one and respect the rule of law since the Supreme Court has the final say.

He emphasized that the court is not a place for sentiment or beer parlour talk; instead, it is a place of evidence. He mentioned that the justices had thoroughly examined the matter and issued their ruling. He expected Peter Obi to abide by it.

He then posed the question: “In all the petitions that Peter Obi presented to the court, which one of them was he able to prove?” He asserted that Peter Obi wasn’t able to prove any of them.

“In all the allegations levelled by Peter Obi, the question to ask is which one of them was proved? Did they leave evidence to show that there were election malpractices, or that there were identity theft or perjury. This are criminal of feces and the requirement is that you must established that beyond a reasonable doubt.
