Breaking: LP Chieftain Sues WAEC, UNN, NYSC Over Peter Obi’s Credentials
A Labour Party chieftain, Abayomi Arabambi, has sued WAEC, the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, and NYSC over the academic credentials of NDC presidential candidate Peter Obi.
In three separate suits filed at the Federal High Court in Abuja, Arabambi is seeking orders compelling the institutions to release official records relating to certificates allegedly issued to Obi.
The suits were filed under the Freedom of Information Act, 2011. WAEC declined the request on August 11, while UNN and NYSC neither granted nor refused the application. No hearing date has been fixed.
Key Points:
Obi’s eligibility for the 2027 presidential election faces fresh legal scrutiny.
The suits test the scope of the Freedom of Information Act in Nigeria.
Public confidence in candidates’ credentials may be affected by the outcome.
The litigation could set a precedent for certificate verification of public officials.
Timing ahead of 2027 raises political stakes for the NDC candidate.
The court will determine whether the institutions must release Obi’s records. Nigerians should watch for hearing dates and rulings that could impact the 2027 presidential race.
