In an interview with AIT, Mustapha Audu, a member of the APC, stated that the claim that ‘winning at least 25 percent of the votes cast in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) is a requirement for presidential candidates to be declared winners of the election’ is not valid.
Audu questioned why a vote in Abuja should hold more weight than a vote in Kogi, asserting that the votes of all Nigerians should carry equal value.
In Audu’s words: “I am not here to defend INEC, all I am saying is that the rules were not violated. Everybody claiming that the FCT 25% that is fake (sic). It doesn’t make any sense because if you vote in Abuja and I vote in Kogi what makes your vote two times the value of my vote? Absolutely nothing. I am a Nigerian just like you so our votes should mean the same thing equally”
