Army rescue 17 kidnap victims, rustled cattle in Zamfara

About 17 kidnap victims and some rustled cattle have been rescued by troops of Operation Hadarin Daji of the Nigerian Army.

Captain Yahaya Ibrahim, in a statement issued on behalf of the Force Information Officer, Operation Hadarin Daji, troops on September 14, 2023, thwarted a kidnap attempt and rescued two victims and a commercial vehicle conveying food items in the Shinkafi Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

The statement explained that on a routine patrol, the troops deployed at Forward Operating Base Danjigba intercepted and rescued three kidnap victims who were abducted from their farmlands and kept in the Dangajeru forest.

The statement added that on September 13 2023, troops of Operation Hadarin Daji in Zamfara State intercepted and rescued eight kidnap victims at Baggega.

The statement stated that preliminary investigation revealed that the victims had been in captivity for eight weeks and were able to escape from Gando forest due to the recent offensive operation and constant fighting patrol along the fringes of the forest.

According to the statement, “Similarly on September 12 2023, acting on intelligence reports on the movement of large numbers of rustled animals by bandits around Tsamiyar Gezozi in Anka LGA of Zamfara State. Troops of Operation Hadarin Daji (OPHD) deployed at Anka swung into action to the crossing route and engaged the bandits with superior fire, which forced the bandits to flee and abandon over 130 rustled animals.”
