AFCON qualifiers: Why I didn’t play Torunarigha, Gift Orban against Sao Tome – Jose Peseiro

The Super Eagles manager, Jose Peseiro, has revealed why KAA Gent duo Jordan Torunarigha  and Gift Orban did not play any part in the win over Sao Tome and Principe on Sunday.

The Super Eagles thrashed the lowly rated African side 6-0 at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo.

Orban was not in the squad While the former Germany underage international was a non-playing substitute.

It is understood that Orban was injured in training and did not pass a late fitness test to play.

The two players earned their first call-ups to the national team.

Peseiro has said that it was his own decision not to introduce the German-born central defender off the bench.

“Orban felt pain in the muscles. He cannot play with injury because we have to take permission from the club. We have a good relationship with the clubs,” he told reporters after the game.

“About Jordan, I can put eleven players with five substitutes. Onyedika came two times and for the first time he played, Tyronne also. Jordan was the first time, he has time.

“I spoke with him last season and asked him if he wants to play with us and he said okay. He didn’t play today, can play in future.”
