The Sun Awards is an annual recognition for individuals who have been outstanding in various fields of endeavours.
The Political Icon of 2023 was given to Peter Obi for the impact he created in the democratic processes in 2023.
Ahead of the 2023 election, Peter Obi had built a movement of fervent followers known as Obidients that gave the major parties in the country a good run for their money. For the first time, Nigeria had a third force, which many believe was a huge shift in the country’s democratic development.
While reacting to The Sun Awards, Obi said that he is usually reluctant to receive awards when the country is facing challenges, but that this particular award is different because it seeks to recognize people who are making serious efforts to turn Nigeria into a country of our dreams.
In the statement he released on X shortly after receiving the award, the former Anambra State governor said that he dedicates the award to the suffering Nigerians who are not sure of where their next meals would come from.
Part of his statement read, “I am honoured to be named the Political Icon Year 2023 by The Sun Awards. While I’m usually hesitant to accept awards in the face of our nation’s challenges, this recognition is unique because it aims to celebrate those making significant contributions in various ways to get the Nigeria of our dreams.
“It also provides opportunities to applaud those who have made enormous sacrifices for our progress.
“I dedicate this award to the impoverished Nigerians facing uncertainty about their next meal and extend my appreciation to fellow Nigerians, especially the youth, who believe in our mission and who have remained committed to our journey for a New Nigeria.”…..CONTINUE READING>>>>>>
