Naira today is getting to almost N2,000 per dollar ,Suffering & Hunger Started With The Removal Of Fuel Subsidy — NLC Joe Ajaero

Joe Ajaero, the president of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), has provided an explanation for the labour union’s decision to start the nationwide hunger protest on February 27 and 28.

In response to questions regarding the specific challenges that Nigerians face that necessitated the announcement of the two-day statewide protest and the TUC’s position, Ajaero listed the skyrocketing prices of transportation, food, and cement, among other items, all of which he claimed were brought on by the removal of petrol subsidies.

He Said: “The whole crisis of this hardship and hunger started with the removal of fuel subsidy,”stressing that “The moment that was touched,transportation and everything associated with it went up, that even if a wanted to go to a bush market to buy plantain,before she would transport it to the town,a lot of money has gone into it, and it will go out of the reach of an ordinary man.”

According to him, this was made worse by the Naira’s free floating, “where Naira today is getting to almost N2,000 per dollar.”

“It implies that all other neighbouring countries have more valuable currencies than Nigeria, which has contributed significantly to the problem of smuggling,” he says.…..CONTINUE READING>>>>>>
