In an interview with the African Independence Television (AIT) News, Akunna emphasized the rarity of such a massive embezzlement occurring in such a short timeframe within the Nigerian context. He specifically highlighted the alleged mismanagement of N44 billion over the span of four days, prompting questions about the existing accountability mechanisms and oversight structures. Additionally, Akunna drew attention to the perceived silence of the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU) concerning the alleged financial misconduct by the ousted NSIPA CEO, underscoring the statutory responsibility of the NFIU to monitor suspicious cash movements.

According to him: “The interesting thing is that this N44B was allegedly stolen in four days, about ten billion everyday, you know from 27 of December, 31st, 44 billion. And then you know, it also comes to question the role of Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit, because this is a statutory body invested with the responsible of tracking suspicious movement of cash.

“So, is it because of the head of the agency and the persons involved are from the same geopolitical zone?
