The management of University of Lagos (UNILAG), Lagos State has claimed that the school bus was vandalised by some unknown miscreants who stole gowns meant for its graduates for the 54 convocation ceremony.
POSTREPORTERS learnt that the university’s 54th convocation ceremony is slated for Tuesday, January 16, 2024 and the graduates were mandated to pay the sum of N15,000 for the collection of the gowns.
However, it was gathered that some graduates who paid the money received a notice from the school management that the collection of the gowns had been suspended because of the vandalisation by the unknown hoodlums.
“We regret to inform you that the distribution of SPGS academic gowns is now suspended. Sadly, the remaining gowns were stolen and our bus vandalised this afternoon,” the university’s email to one of the graduates which was seen by POSTREPORTERSread.
A lawyer, Malachy Odo, also said he received the same notice from the school via test messages after he had paid the levy meant for the collection of the gown.
“I paid 15k for convocation gown yesterday and this is what UNILAG just sent me. This country is not a real place,” he wrote on X.
In 2023,POSTREPORTERS reported several agitations that trailed the increment of tuition fees by the university management.
For Instance, personnel of the Lagos State Command of the Nigeria Police Force arrested Giwa Yisa while protesting with the University of Lagos (UNILAG) Students against fees increment by the school authorities.
POSTREPORTERS had also reported how the police shot at students during the protest and arrested an activist, Philip Olatinwo and two other protesters in September 2023.
Also, the University of Lagos (UNILAG) reportedly suspended the sale of hostel bed space at the sum of N525,000 to each student of the institution after an expose by POSTREPORTERS.
POSTREPORTERS had reported that students of the University had raised the alarm that the institution was charging each student the sum of N525,000 for a bed space at the university’s hostels, while it issued them receipts for N135,000.…..CONTINUE READING>>>>>>
