The NLC had initially announced a nationwide protest set for February 27 and 28 in response to the country’s economic challenges. This decision came after a 14-day ultimatum to the federal government regarding widespread hardship.
In a letter dated February 23, 2024, addressed to Femi Falana, the counsel for the NLC, Fagbemi reminded the NLC about an existing order prohibiting the union from engaging in any industrial action.
Fagbemi highlighted that the planned protest was related to issues currently before the National Industrial Court, making public protests on the same matters a violation and disrespect to the court.
Fagbemi emphasized that the government had largely met the union’s demands outlined in a memorandum of understanding. He requested the NLC to refrain from the protest, stating that it could disrupt public service, order, and safety.
