Human rights activist, Francis Nwapa, has tackled the leaders from the South-East region who have been telling the Igbos not to join the protest against economic hardship and rising cost of living in the country.

The Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) had on Tuesday staged protests in parts of the country against hardship in the land. Ahead of the protests, some people from the South-East region had called on the Igbos not to join the protest.

According to the report by POSTREPORTERS, Nwapa said that the government policies have subjected all Nigerians to hunger, pain and misery irrespective of their ethnic group.

He said that now that the working class of Nigeria across the country are speaking out against the hardship and hunger, there needs to be unity among the citizens in demanding the reversal of the policies that are not favourable to the masses.

He said, “There’s massive poverty in the East, poor healthcare service, underfunded education system, bad roads, poor power supply, etc, just as it is across Nigeria, majorly attributed to long years of capitalist exploitation of the economy. Just a few individuals can brag about wealth while the vast majority are in poverty.”

In addition to that, Nwapa questioned if the Igbos are operating a market where they buy things cheaper, and why they should not join the protest calling for an end to hunger.

He added, “The Igbo working class are not immune to the current hunger and continuous increasing cost of food, goods and services. They do not operate a different market where things are sold at a cheaper rate, so why then shouldn’t the Igbo worker join the #Endhungerprotest?”……CONTINUE READING>>>>>>
