According to a news report published by the Cable, Lawal highlighted the drastic increase in the cost of essential commodities, stating, “If last year, I bought five mudus of garri, today, that same amount can only buy you one mudu. So, the food is there but the money is not there to purchase it.

” He drew attention to the exorbitant rise in diesel prices, a vital resource for farming machinery, which has surged from N180,000 to N380,000 per drum in just a year. Lawal expressed concern about the implications of such increases on the agricultural sector, questioning whether he would be able to afford sufficient diesel for his extensive farming equipment next year.

Addressing ongoing protests related to the current economic hardships, Lawal clarified that the issue wasn’t a lack of food in the country but the dwindling purchasing power of the people.
