The decision, rooted in a meticulous undercover investigation conducted by a Nigerian newspaper, exposed the dubious activities of a degree mill in Cotonou, a major city in the Benin Republic. The investigative reporter, astonishingly, obtained a degree from Cotonou University within a mere six weeks and subsequently participated in the mandatory one-year scheme organized by the National Youth Service Corps.

In response to these revelations, the National Universities Commission (NUC) took swift action, delisting several foreign universities. The list, derived from data analysis on the NUC website, serves as a cautionary measure for the Nigerian populace, warning them against enrolling in these now-banned institutions.
