According to Channels TV, the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Afam Obidike, who led the team, said the facility, known as ‘Mother and Child Hospital and Maternity’, was not registered with the state government and was involved in child trafficking. He said the hospital was located on a road along the Tansian University, Umunya.
Dr. Obidike said the ministry had created a database of all the hospitals in the state to ensure quality and standard health care delivery. He said the team visited the facility for inspection and verification but discovered that it was not in the database.
He said the staff of the hospital, including the senior doctor and seven nurses, locked the gate and fled through the back when they saw the team. He said the team broke into the facility and found five girls, aged between 14 and 21, who were pregnant and in poor condition.
He said the girls were taken to a government hospital for proper medical attention and counseling. He said the state government, under the leadership of Governor Charles Soludo, was determined to eradicate the menace of baby factories and child trafficking in the state.
He urged the public to report any suspicious or illegal activities in any health facility to the ministry or the security agencies. He also advised the people to patronize only registered and accredited hospitals for their health needs.…..CONTINUE READING>>>>>>
